In Greece, a land of epic hospitality, Arista means simply "the best". Arista is pronounced a-RIS-ta or ar(i)-sta. Personally, I prefer a-RIS-ta. However, over the years I've heard my name pronounced various ways and due to my generous nature (I suppose), I have answered, although somewhat reluctantly.

For example... instead of calling me Arista, my neighbor of seven years calls me Trista. Mind you, I have seen this neighbor almost daily, again, for seven years. Needless to say, even though the mere sound of his dragging my name, Arista, across the coals and instilling into my brain an image of my Daddy "rolling in his grave" at the mispronunciation of my "birth gift", I haven't the heart to correct him.
